The Drawing Room at Valentines was the setting for a unique and creative workshop for children aged 8-12 years this week. The ‘Call the Shots’ event which sold out almost immediately after going on sale, saw a group of budding film-makers create two short animated films under the guidance of local film-maker and animator Sadia Ur-Rehman.
In the space of four hours, the young group created characters and storyline, made models out of plasticine and got involved in photographing and turning their script into short films, with the use of music.
The event culminated in a private view of the two 30-second films for the parents of the participants, as well as a presentation by the group to explain the inspirations for their ideas.
Before leaving the group was asked to rate the workshop, and all agreed that it was “excellent”, and they had all enjoyed the opportunity to learn how to make a film.
Sadia commented on how collaboratively the group worked, and that she was ‘thrilled’ with the enthusiasm shown by the participants and the results produced. Each of the children was given a copy of the films on CD as a keepsake.
Valentines Mansion organises a whole range of events for children during the school holidays, and the first Sunday of every month is a Family Sunday featuring free events for the whole family to enjoy. For more details and a full listing of events please visit the What’s on page.
