The exhibition, which is a collaboration of work by artists Sarah Cole and Anne Eggebert, started from a fragment of wallpaper found in the servants’ quarters of the mansion during its restoration. The artists went looking for the bridge, church and market square in the 1950s vignettes of a romantic Venice and the exhibition follows this journey and the people they met along the way.

The exhibition, situated in the mansions Gallery and the Dovecote within the gardens has received many visitors since its launch, and has received some excellent feedback.

One visitor commented “I find both films very meditative and love the connection made with the wallpaper found at Valentines and Venice. It fits beautifully with the location, I look forward to seeing more contemporary art at Valentines.”

The display features new video, photographs and a drawing made over the past year in direct response to the fragment of wallpaper and also include postcards of visitors interpretations of the wallpaper at the Mansion’s recent Open Studio event.

Another visitor said the exhibition was “inspiring - wonderful to see something so modern as free runners travelling along old walls and roofs - beautiful”

Don’t miss out on your chance to see the thought provoking Folly exhibition.

Valentines Mansion is open to the public on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10am to 5pm and on Sundays from 11am to 4pm. Entry to the mansion is free. Please note that the exhibition is not open to the public in the Dovecote on Wednesday's.
