Guests of the Nation - Belgian Refugees, the First World War and Redbridge

An exhibition by Redbridge Museum.
In the first few months of the First World War, several hundred Belgian refugees arrived in Ilford, Wanstead and Woodford, where they found a home. This Redbridge Museum exhibition explores where they stayed and what life was like for them. Many stayed at Valentines Mansion and the display recreates one of their rooms.

Join us for a day of music and entertainment in Valentines Mansion and the surrounding grounds with entertainment for everyone and great fun for families.

We have all the familiar ingredients, a wide variety of art and craft stalls, live music from Redbridge Music School and Fairlop Brass Ensemble and the return of the Blackhorse and Standard womens Morris dancers. New this year, playing for the first time at the Mansion the delightful Champagne Flutes. Children can also enjoy joining in with activities in the Victorian kitchen. Visitors will also be treated to the sounds of live music courtesy of Redbridge Music Lounge.

Proceeds go towards supporting and assisting in the preservation of the Mansion. Keeping it accessible for the community through projects such as the transformation of an old office into the Regency Parlour which is now a fun and interactive place all can enjoy.

Enjoy a delightful selection of acoustic music performances in a beautiful setting, each month showcasing different musicians & music styles. Arrive early to get the best spot! Picnics are welcomed but please bring your own seating or ground covers as chairs & blankets are not provided. Hosted by the Redbridge Green Fair Music Club and the Redbridge Music Lounge.

Studio artist Amanda Seljubac is back with our best-selling fused glass workshop. Make a decorative piece to take home, using specialist techniques and materials, including frit, stringers, metal inclusions and compatible glass. This would make a wonderful gift for someone special, perhaps for a birthday or anniversary. Whatever the occasion, make sure you book early, this workshop is extremely popular and spaces fill up fast.
