Artist in Residence 2012-Phenomena by Tania Moreira David & Juri Nishi.

Phenomena is a site specific project that merges Architecture, Dance, Film and Visual Art which reveals the memory of the movements of previous Mansion inhabitants. The project explores the relationship between the body and the architectural landscape, questioning memories and the sense of belonging.

The project is a collaboration between Portuguese film maker Tania Moreira David and Japanese visual and live artist Juri Nishi. For more information visit http://www.jurinishi.com/jurinishi.com/phenomena.html

A series of screenings will be shown at Valentines Mansion between February and March as part of the project, which will culminate in an exhibition from May to August.

Screening 1- Pather Panchali (1955, India. 115 min, B/W, In Bengali with subtitles)

Sometime in the early years of the 20th century, a boy, Apu, is born to a poor Brahmin family in a village in Bengal. The father, a poet and priest, cannot earn enough to keep his family going. Apu's sister, Durga, is forever stealing guavas from the neighbour's orchards. All these add to the daily struggles of the mother's life, notwithstanding her constant bickering with old aunt who lives with the family.
